With its vivid colours and glittering heritage, Rajasthan is a distillation of all that appeals about India. This trip focuses on the spectacular sights of the state, from the fabulous palaces and temples of Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur, to lesser-known gems such as Bundi and Chittorgarh Fort. Topping them up with an exhilarating experience of searching the majestic Bengal Tiger at the Ranthambore National Park.
Delhi
Arrive at Delhi by international flight. A KVT representative will meet you at the airport and assist you to the vehicle. We will drive towards the pink city of Jaipur (5 – 6hrs drive). Rest of the day is free to relax at the hotel. (Meals – Nil)
After breakfast explore the city of Jaipur. We visit the fascinating Amer Fort – the hilltop fort built by Kachwaha dynasty ruler Man Singh. Later, we proceed to the City Palace, a perfect blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Further we visit Jantar Mantar (Solar Observatory) – an astronomical treasure house with solar devices that give accurate predictions till date. We will drive past Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) – a five-storied structure of pink sandstone, specially built as a high screen wall for the women of royal household to observe the street festivities without being noticed from outside. This morning we will drive to Pushkar (3 – 4hrs. drive). Pushkar is one of the oldest and prominent Hindu pilgrimage town, lying along the shore of Pushkar lake. Pushkar has the only temple of Lord Brahma in the country and one of the few in the world. Upon arrival at Pushkar we will check-in to the hotel. In the afternoon we visit the Brahma Temple and the sacred lake. Evening we visit and explore the local market area. (Meals: Breakfast)
Today we will drive west to the city of Jodhpur (3.5 – 4.5hrs drive) Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan and is also known as ‘Sun City’ for the bright weather as well as ‘Blue City’ for its vivid blue-painted houses. We will reach Jodhpur and check-in to the hotel. Afternoon we visit the Mehrangarh Fort, one of the most impressive and formidable structures in India. It is an architectural marvel which spreads over an area of around 5km; this imposing structure overlooks the city of Jodhpur. (Meals: Breakfast)
After breakfast we drive to Udaipur (4.5 – 5.5hrs drive), en-route visit the beautiful 15th century Ranakpur Jain temple – the main temple, beautifully carved from marble, has 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars, each delicately carved with a different design. Continue with our drive to Udaipur and upon arrival we check in to hotel. Considered as the most romantic city of India, Udaipur is famous worldwide for its plethora of breath-taking lakes and Raj-era palaces. The city is often referred to as the “Venice of the east”. Today morning we will start exploring the old city with a visit to the City Palace – built in the year 1725, it is an intriguing collection of buildings contributed by various Maharanas after Udai Singh. Later we will walk through the lanes of the old city till we reach Jagdish Temple – the largest and most beautiful Indo-Aryan temple in Udaipur adorned with noteworthy sculpted images. We will also visit Sahelion ki Bari (Garden of Maids of Honour), an ornamental garden built by Maharana Sangram Singh for his daughter and the Ladies of the Queen’s court. Late evening we enjoy a sunset boat ride on the lake Pichola witnessing the heritage buildings on the banks of the lake and life of people surrounding the lake. (Meals: Breakfast)
Today we drive towards Bundi (4.5 – 5.5hrs drive) en-route visiting Chittorgarh Fort – one of the largest and most well-known forts of India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, beautifully located on a hill beside the river. After the visit, we continue the drive to Bundi and check-in to the hotel. Later, if time permits and as per your interest, you may explore Bundi city including the famous step-well reservoirs locally known as ‘baoris’, the colorful vegetable market and the surrounding local area, or relax at the hotel. After breakfast, we drive to the historic Taragarh Fort, perched on a hilltop overlooking Bundi city. Explore its impressive gateways and admire the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Later, we will drive to Ranthambore (3 – 4hrs drive) and upon arrival we check in to your hotel. (Meals: Breakfast & Dinner)
Ranthambore National Park holds one of the largest populations of Tiger in India. There is other wildlife such as several species of monkey, deer, leopards, foxes and crocodiles, birdlife including purple heron, kingfishers, cormorants, parakeets, Jacanda, waders and partridges. Today we will have 2 game drives into the park by Canter – a large open truck on sharing basis. We wake up early morning and leave for our 1st safari into the National Park. Track the tigers in the wild and other wildlife through the morning. After having lunch, we leave again for our 2nd safari in the park. (Meals: Breakfast & Dinner)
Today we will drive to Agra (5 – 6hrs drive) en-route visiting Fatehpur Sikri. It was formally the capital of the Mughal Empire; this wonderfully preserved ‘ghost town’ was constructed by Emperor Akbar and it reflects his ideals in art, religion and architecture. The mosque is designed to hold ten thousand worshippers. We continue with our drive to Agra and upon arrival we will check in to hotel. (Meals: Breakfast)
Early morning we proceed for a sunrise visit to the beautiful Taj Mahal, built by the 5th Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan on the banks of River Yamuna in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. A symbol of eternal love, the Taj Mahal is serenely beautiful and never fails to amaze a first time visitor. Return to the hotel for breakfast. Later, we visit the imposing Agra Fort, whose mighty red sandstone walls enclose the beautiful white marble Pearl Mosque and the palaces, halls, courtyards and fountains built by the Mughal emperors. After sightseeing, we drive towards the Indian capital city of Delhi (3.5 – 4.5hrs drive). Upon arrival we check in to the hotel and relax. (Meals: Breakfast)
