The tour begins with a visit to the iconic Golden Temple in Amritsar, where the serene atmosphere create a memorable start to the trip. From Amritsar, travel to the scenic hill town of Dharamshala, home to the Dalai Lama and renowned for its Tibetan culture, monasteries, and stunning views of the Dhauladhar Range. Explore the vibrant town before embarking on an exhilarating trek to the pristine Kareri Lake, a crystal-clear glacial lake nestled at an altitude of approximately 2,934 metres amidst dense forests, alpine meadows, and dramatic mountain landscapes. The journey continues to the spectacular Minkiani Pass, perched at over 4,300 metres. This challenging high-altitude crossing rewards trekkers with breathtaking panoramic views of the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges while following ancient shepherd trails through rugged Himalayan terrain.
Amritsar
Arrive at Amritsar by international flight. A KVT representative will meet you at the airport and assist you to the vehicle. Later you will be transferred to hotel. Late afternoon visit to the Golden Temple – an important pilgrimage site for the Sikhs built around a man-made pool (sarovar). See the langar – community kitchen where free meal is served round the clock to visitors. (Meals: Nil)
After breakfast depart from Amritsar and drive to Dharamshala (4.5 – 5.5hrs drive). Dharamsala (2000m) is also known as Little Lhasa and home to his holiness Dalai Lama. Rest of the time is free for us to explore the locality, winding streets and local markets of McLeodganj on our own. (Meals: Breakfast)
After breakfast we start exploring the hill station of Norbulingka Monastery – an institute dedicated to handing down tradition and restoring standards by providing training, education and employment for Tibetans (Workshop at the institute remains close on Sundays & National Holidays). Later we return to Mcleodganj and start exploring the town and its local market area. We visit Tsuglagkhang Complex – this is the largest Tibetan temple outside Tibet, and has a large meditation hall, as well as a Kalachakra temple with beautiful murals. The complex is situated in front of residence of HH Dalai Lama. Proceed to Tse Chokling Gompa – located on a steep hillside in Dhauladhar range, this beautiful Tibetal Buddhist monastery houses a tall, beautiful, gilt edged figure of Lord Buddha, a statue of Padamasambhava and other divine statues. Later visit St. John in Wilderness Church – an Anglican church in middle of Deodar forest built in Neo-Gothic architectural style. Later we will walk around the vibrant colourful Tibetan market. Today after breakfast we will drive for half an hour to Satovari village, the starting point of our trek. From here we will trek towards Kareri village, en-route we cross Ghera village. On the way we will be crossing small streams over an improvised hanging bridge. Later the trail is steep, ascending through forest and passing through several more small villages. Reach Kareri village and relax in the tents. (Trek begins / Driving Time: Approx. 30 mins / Trekking Time: 5 – 6hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Morning we continue our trek towards Reyoti village. Today the trail is a steep ascent and we have to cross streams over an hanging bridge several times to reach our next camping site at Reyoti village. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
This morning we will finish our breakfast and start trekking to Kareri Lake, which is a mountain lake and a base camp for Minkiani Pass (4250m) and Baleni Pass (3710m). There is a temple situated beside the lake and it is considered sacred among the nearest villagers. Reach Kareri Lake and we will camp beside the lake for the night. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Today we trek to Minkiani Pass (4250m) from where one can have a beautiful view of the snow-peaked mountains and the valley. The trail is steep ascent through boulders, moraine and snow. After spending some time at Minkiani Pass we descent to Kareri Lake and overnight at camp. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
In the morning after finishing breakfast we leave Kareri Lake and descent towards Kareri village. It will be an easy trail as the trail goes down all the way to the village. (Trek ends) Later we board the vehicle and drive to Dharamshala. Upon arrival we check-in to the hotel. (Driving Time: Approx. 2hrs / Trekking Time: 5 – 6hrs / Meals: Breakfast & Lunch)
Morning is at leisure to explore the area on your own. Afternoon, transfer to Pathankot railway station for overnight train to Delhi. (Meals: Breakfast)
Arrive at Delhi in the morning. Assistance on arrival at the railway station and transfer to hotel, where room will be booked on Day Use basis (maximum 6hrs stay between 10:00hrs till 18:00hrs). Later transfer to international airport for flight back to home country. (Meals: Breakfast)
